Fine Music Radio: The early evening jazz slot now starts half an hour earlier : You can now listen to jazz from 6.30 to 8.00pm. The gig guide will be happening at about 7.30pm Monday to Friday. Tune in at 101.3FM, or if you're out of town, go to www.fmr.co.za


I've still had no reply to my many queries about the Rainbow Room. So if their events are not mentioned, it's not through want of effort; but as the saying goes, "You can take a horse to water..."

Tuesday 18th May
"Restless Natives" play straight-ahead jazz at Asoka in Kloof street.

Lucrecia Rodrigues trio play Latin Jazz at Cafe' Sofia in Kloof street.

Wednesday 19th May
From 9pm, Dave Ledbetter Sextet with Buddy Wells,Lee Thompson, Andrew Lilley, Shane Cooper, Kesivan Naidoo play at Speedway Cafe' 105; that's at the Tafelberg Tavern, Roodehek Terrace.
Green Dolphin, V&A Waterfront:Tete Mbambisa trio
Lucrecia Rodrigues trio play Latin Jazz at Cafe' Sofia in Kloof street.
Bev Scott-Brown, Andrew Ford and Wesley Rustin play at Jackson Hall, Grand West, from 9 to 12pm


Thursday 20th May
From 8 to 11, Casablanca play at Chaplans Restaurant, Table View. The guest artist this week is, once again, Bev Scott-Brown.

Friday 21st May
Dunes in Hout Bay is having a private function, so Evergreen will not be playing there this Friday.

Lunchtime: Keith Macfarlane plays at the Brass Bell, Kalk Bay.
Sunday evening:
At Swingers in Wetton, you can hear Leslie Kleinsmith's band, with Sammy Hartman, Ivan Bell, Wesley Rustin, and guest artist Ian Smith on trumpet from 8.00pm.
Simon’s, Groot Constantia, 5:30pm to 9pm: Andrew Ford and band.
Mark Goliath trio play at Green Dolphin.


Monday 24th May
The famous jazz jam with Alvin Dyers and band (with lots of guest artists) happens every Monday night at Swingers, Wetton; music starts at about 9.30 or 10.00.
